Ashtanga vinyasa consists of breath synchronized progressive series of postures that generates internal heat, profuse sweating and flexibility. The result is a strong and light body and calmness of the mind. The ashtanga vinyasa yoga style is characterized by deep “ujjayi” breathing, a specific point of gaze for each posture, bandhas or internal locks and the signature vinyasa, the jumping back and forward after each posture to reset the body and keep the circulation and heart pumping vigorously. Although ashtanga is not inherently aerobic, it results in improved cardiovascular efficiency and benefits generally associated with aerobic activities. It also results in developing a strong core and upper body strength.
